IFF 2023 KIDS FUN CASTING COMPETITION
It only takes a child a minute to learn the SAUSAGE ROLL CAST using a real mini fly rod, flyline and fluff. A fun chance to see that fly casting is easy and maybe win a prize.
Our children's coaches work as volunteers at the Northern Counties Angling Hub at Straid. Families and vulnerable adults are at the core of their work with a strong emphasis on promoting the mental health benefits of angling.
About Ray McKeeman
Ray is a Master Casting Instructor with Fly Fishers International and Advanced Single Handed Certificate with APGAI Ireland. A passion for teaching drives him to help anglers of all levels.
He has a passion for fly fishing and he loves introducing it to children and adults who have not fished before. Many of us have struggled to fly cast and Ray tries to make this interesting and fun so that beginners do not get discouraged as they learn the basics. In particular, teaching children, he has found that sessions should be Fun, Fun, Fun. Using a micro fly rod, splashing water with paint brushes, launching a dog’s ball and playing casting games are some of the ways of achieving this. Ray believes that all of us from 8 to 80+ can, after only a few minutes instruction, successfully cast a fly rod using the Sausage ROLL CAST!
Ray is a full time Fishery manager and Casting Instructor. He holds an APGAI IRELAND ADVANCED Single-Handed Casting Qualification and is one of only a few instructors in Ireland holding a Master Casting Instructor qualification with Fly Fishers International.
