JOIN Stephen McIlwaine AT THE IRISH FLY FAIR
I am delighted to be joining the GAIA team this year at the Irish Fly Fair.
Fishing has always been part of my life, I have been casting and tying flies for trout since the age of 8. My real passion is the Atlantic Salmon, nothing beats the thrill of that elusive tug on the line, as the reel screams and the Salar jumps. Since the age of 8 this passion has consumed most of my life and brought me so much happiness.
I have caught Salmon in Russia and Scotland, as well as all over Ireland. But I feel most at home on the banks of the river Mourne and Finn. For the past decade I have been working as part of the Loop team in Ireland, attending shows across the country.
Each year I also deliver the Salmon in the Classroom project along multiple schools on the north coast. This conservation project is super rewarding. It helps to create custodians of the environment and hundreds of children each year. I have an attachment to the plight of the Atlantic Salmon and their local streams. This can only benefit the Salmon in the long run.
I am qualified to level 2 certificate in coaching angling through the UAF. I AM currently working towards my GAIA Double handed qualification and GAIA Uk Salmon Guide Syllabus.
I am keen to help and support as many people as possible over the weekend. Fishing is for everyone of all ages and skill level to enjoy. Sharing knowledge is the key.
