I am originally from a village in Co. Kildare called Robertstown on the Grand Canal. Built in the 18th century my love for fishing goes back a long way, as a child fishing for sticklebacks and minnow in a small river then progressing to fishing in the Grand canal for course fishing. I Then joined the Irish Ladies flyfishing association in 1998 and started flyfishing under the guidance of Sean Mc Menamon who was the manager of the fishing in the k club in Straffan in Co. Kildare. I was delighted to make the Team to fish for Ireland on Lough Corrib in 2001. I was Lucky enough to catch a fish one of only a few.
My love for fly-tying came 12 odd years ago, when our fishing club decided to form a Flytying class under the direction of Christy Emmett and Tony Finn. Both were very knowledgeable and experienced and I learned to start fly tying.
To date I've tied flies in Dublin for a few years. More recently on the Irish Ladies flyfishing stand at Adaire springs for the last 2 yrs. and more recently at the River Festival, in Foxford, the invitation coming from the committee and Julie McKeever.
I really want to express my appreciation for the support my friends Margaret & Marion Rooney have given me on my Fly Fishing journey and my mentor Mr John Mealy, who has given me so much confidence in the last couple of years.
I'm very much looking forward to meeting all the fly-tyers and learning so much more from them all.
