I live in Putte, a small town in central Belgium. I've been married for 50 years and we have two wonderful children and four grandchildren. Both boys are also fly fishermen and have recently started tying flies. Email: pvekemans@hotmail.com
I started fly fishing about 40 years ago and participated in my first World Fly Fishing Championship in Poland in 1985. I was captain of the Belgian team for many years. After the World Cup in England in 2000, I became Belgian captain and became a member of the FIPS-Mouche board. I was president of FIPS-MOUCHE for 10 years, then vice-president, and last year, after 20 years, I resigned.
My favourite fishing method is dry fly fishing for grayling, but I've tried many different forms of fly fishing. Lake fishing, river fishing, saltwater fly fishing, salmon fly fishing all over the world.
As a fly tier, I tie fishing flies, not show flies, and generally tie dry flies for grayling or trout, and classic (or not-so-classic) wet flies from Irish lakes. It's an honor to represent Belgium in your country.
