JOIN John Schets AT THE IRISH FLY FAIR
My name is John Schets, 60 years old, born in Breda, a city in the south of the Netherlands.
Fly tying, fly fishing and casting have been my great passion for more than 20 years. I like fishing for pike and perch in the Netherlands and for trout and grayling in the countries around the Netherlands. My most favorite fishing is salmon fishing in Scotland and Norway. Traveling together with friends is very valuable. This is how I came into contact with tying the classic patterns that are my favorite.
I am regularly asked to demonstrate classic fly tying at various fairs. This has brought me many friendships with binders who share the same passion. I am a guest at the Dutch flying fair, the British and the Irish flying fair. This year I'm really looking forward to going to the Belgian fly fair for the first time, it's always a lot of fun there.
The crowning glory of my work this year is the invitation to the international fly fair, the ASFI in Calgary, Canada in September. A fair only and especially for the classic salmon flies, I feel honored to be the only Dutch person to participate. Naturally, I am committed to making a great contribution everywhere and passing on fly tying to other enthusiastic fly tyers so that the craft is not lost. These with a lot of passion and fun are real win-win events.
