Jay has been at the water's edge since he was baby, picking up fly fishing on trout lakes as a toddler and got to experience his first Salmon at the age of 7, where his love for migratory fish began. After many years as a touring musician, he rekindled his love for fly fishing by tying flies and helping to develop Baltic Salmon fishing destinations in Sweden, as well as helping fly fishing brands such as Loop Tackle Design, Spey Brothers, Future Fly & Vision in their development.
Jay has written published articles for worldwide fishing magazines and blogs as well as appearing in fly fishing movies such Hooké's "Laplanders" and Sportfish "Get Kid's Into Fly Fishing" with his Twin boys Zack & Alex. Jay loves his time on the water especially with his kids, but the vice is a close 2nd.
For many years Jay's main passion was salmon fishing and tying Scandinavian style flies, but there was always one place and one particular species that was at the top of the bucket list and in the summer of 2023 was finally able to go and fish in Greenland for Sea Run Arctic Char. Here a new passion was ignited, tying the more vibrant and eclectic patterns for targeting Char, especially fishing skated foam flies for the most electric top water fishing.
During Summer 2024 Jay visited Greenland again for several weeks exploring and filming in 3 different rivers (Erfalik, Kangia, Eqalugsuggsuit - Camp North) and learning as much about Sea Run Arctic Char as possible whilst documenting the experience. An exclusive film about all 3 will be presented at this years' Irish Fly Fair, along with a short talk about the fishing in Greenland and these incredible fish that are so closely related to the Salmon and Trout species we have at home. Anglers can also learn about opportunities to join Jay in Greenland to share the experience.
