JOIN EVO SMYTH AT THE IRISH FLY FAIR
Living in midlands of Ireland - Co. Longford, I started fly fishing more than a decade and a half ago. Taking the path from novice to seasoned fly angler, I was always looking to adapt various fly-fishing styles which led to a need for different flies to be used and a shortage of them - or more correct description - shortage of choice in local angling outlets resulted in my first attempts of fly tying.
At present I am involved in the fly tying art for little over decade with the main focus on Irish lake flies. I am a member Kopterflies - Italian fly-tying tools manufacturing company team. I have contributed to "The Fly Tyer's Art" by Toni Lolli, a book featuring 33 international fly tiers and their work as well contributed to "Cast Away" and "Draad" magazines showcasing flies for Midlands of Ireland.
Regarding fly tying techniques and style I might be seen as somewhat traditionalist focusing more on colour combinations and movement rather than adopting all new and substitute materials. Reason for that being is I enjoy learning from fly tying history and fly development.
I suppose - best way to summarize this attitude is by quoting Marie Antoinette: "There is nothing new but that which is forgotten."
