25th & 26th October 2025
Barry Farrell from Kilcolgan Co. Galway. Started fly fishing in the late 1980s and started fly tying in 1994. He was taught by Kevin Gill from Renmore Galway City.
Barry fishes the western loughs, Carra, Mask, and the Corrib and have done so since the 1980s, mainly for brown trout with some occasional salmon.
He loves to fish out in Conemara for salmon and seatrout.
Barry ties flies of all kinds, but it's mainly flies suitable for browns in the loughs and then salmon and seatrout in Conemara.
Barry has tied flies that have been fished in the likes of Terra del Fuego in Argentina for very large seatrout and also for big brown trout in New Zealand and searun artic char. He has tied Atlantic salmon flies that have been fished from big rivers in Norway to the smaller, more intimate rivers in Iceland and indeed Conemara. Some of his flies are fished on the competition circuit and have been the winning fly in various competitions like the European Cup.
You will find Barry tying on the Gowen & Bradshaw Stand at the Irish Fly Fair, call past and check out his craft.
