ANDREW HOGG AT THE IRISH FLY FAIR
This year the subject of Andrews talk is
"Grayling fishing in Austria: from the Alps to suburbia"
"Grayling fishing in Austria: from the Alps to suburbia"
Born and raised in Ayrshire, Scotland, Andrew has been fishing since he was a boy. He grew up fishing mainly for brown trout and pike but has dangled lines far and wide for a huge variety of fish from roach to yellowfin tuna. His deep appreciation and interest in the aquatic world lead him to Aberdeen University, where he graduated with a degree in aquaculture & fisheries management.
His first and main love in angling is fly fishing. He enjoys this to the fullest in Austria, where he currently lives, fishing for wild brown and rainbow trout as well as grayling, pike and chub. In 2012 he started his guiding company “Wildside Fishing” and has enjoyed taking clients far out into the Scottish Highlands in pursuit of trout nirvana: peace, wilderness and tranquility with fins attached.
Apart from guiding in Scotland and Austria, he works as an author, film-maker, public speaker and fisheries advisor. His favourite places to fish are wild, untouched waters in the Highlands of Scotland and in Austria with dry flies whenever the opportunity presents itself.
In 2024 Andrew showed his inspiring short movie MERMAIDS. It was nominated at two International Film Festivals. WCFF in New York and MML Spain.
