John Gooderham was born in Mechanicsburg PA in 1963. From his earliest days, he has fished the local streams, lakes, and rivers in Pennsylvania’s Cumberland Valley.
John began fly fishing for Bluegills at a local farm pond in 1972. He learned fly tying from his father that same year. John has been tying flies and catching fish with them ever since. He is equally comfortable using nymphs, dries, terrestrials, and streamers.
John has caught fish in Wyoming, Colorado, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia using his flies (many from his own designs). He is experienced fly angler for Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Panfish, Steelhead, and Bluefish in the surf.
John believes in keeping flies simple while using readily available materials with an emphasis on catching fish rather than fisherman. He has taught fly casting, fly tying, and fly fishing since 1990. He is retired 30 year Army veteran and has been a technical advisor to Scientific Anglers, and fly tying instructor for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing.
John is currently a member of the Semperfli International Pro Team, Cumberland Valley Trout Unlimited, and is a Pennsylvania certified Fishing Skills Instructor.
